PLWA Activities

Panchshila Ladies Welfare Association is a registered non-profit, voluntary and non-governmental organization providing diagnostic care and medicines for underprivileged through a charitable dispensary. Since its inception in 1977 PLWA has helped tiny tots begin their education and imbibe hygiene and health habits and correct values through a Balwadi. The organisation also holds regular educative programmes for their members every 1st Wednesday of the month.

DISPENSARY

The Charitable Dispensary, one of our major achievements, was started on 7th October 1979 through the joint effort of the ladies of the colony. Due to shortage of space PLWA used to operate the dispensary from the garage of Ms.Shakuntala Mehra. Later in 1985 it shifted to its present premises which were made available to the Association by then Lt Governor Shri. Jagmohanji through DDA . Besides the family planning clinic, childcare services, OPD (with free dispensing of medicines) we have an eye care unit, dental unit, orthopaedic section, skin diseases department, physiotherapy facilities and a pathology lab. A special clinic offers free medical advice and medicines for TB patients and immunization for mother and child. The same timings 10am to 12 noon have continued till recently. However on increased demand the timing was increased so as to start twice a week from 8am in the morning. Days had increased from twice a week to three times and today the dispensary functions from Monday to Saturday six times a week.

Mrs.Asha Handa takes care of regular day to day coordination with utmost precision & discipline, taking charge of planning of timing for Doctors Volunteers and the staff of the dispensary as the Dispensary Convenor.

As over 1000-1200 patients are treated every month, over the years lakhs of people have benefitted with free medical advice and medicines. Well-known selfless doctors treat the patients with dedication. The members of the Association provide their personal touch through their voluntary services in the supervision, registering and dispensing of prescribed medicines.

Medicine

Requirement of medicine is ascertained after consulting doctors and verifying prices from various distributors. Medicine labels are tallied with drug Index which is updated every six months. An authorised person checks the authenticity of the sealed packets. Medicine bought and donated is sorted out by doctors and volunteers. Fortnight stock for fast moving and weekly stock for others is maintained. Medicines requiring low temperatures are stored in the refrigerator. To avoid moisture the rest are stocked in steel cupboard systematically.Fresh needles are used for every patient. A team of dedicated volunteers registers the patients and dispenses the medicine as per their fixed allotted schedule. A team of stand by volunteers take over whenever necessary.

Mrs. Sushma Maniktala devotes her time to take care of the medicine section in the dispensary with her vigilant and efficient capabilities as the Dispensary Convenor.

Ms. Satyanand
Ms.Nalini Sehgal
Ms.Sarla Batra
Ms.Sushma Maniktala and
